« Day after day, the hero never shows… »
Tired of being left in the « backlog » the final bosses have decided to take matters into their own hands and battle to determine who is truly the strongest. Experience a trick-taking game set in a video game spin-off world !
The Final Bosses’ Blues is a trick-taking game with a relatively orthodox system. It’s designed for 3-4 players, but this explanation will focus on the 3-player rules.
• Card composition: 5 suits, 9 ranks (1-4, 6-10)
• System: Must follow, individual play, trump cards available
The objective of the game is to reduce your opponent’s HP while protecting your own .
When you win a trick, you acquire all the cards that have been played, and your HP increases or decreases depending on the number of cards you have. Each card of a certain suit adds or subtracts « +2 », « -1 », or « -2 » . Your starting HP is « 15 ».
Before each trick begins, players are assigned a suit that is worth « -2 » (hereinafter referred to as a « weakness »). Each player has a different weakness, and they cannot know which suit their own is. Of the five suits, two are visible as the opponent’s weaknesses, but players must fight through the game without knowing which of the remaining three suits is their own.
The amount of HP gained or lost based on the type of card acquired is as follows:
① Your own « weakness » card: -2
for each card ② Two opponents’ « weakness » cards: -1
for each card ③ Cards of the remaining two suits: +2
for each card Since all players do not know which of suits ① and ③ (a total of three) are worth +2 and which are worth -2 , speculation and bluffing will be common during the trick.
The real thrill of « The Melancholy of the Last Bosses » lies in figuring out which cards to collect and which to avoid based on the enemy’s movements .
Before the trick begins, there is a phase for « hand organization » and « trump determination. »
(Everyone places 3 cards face down from their hand → shuffle → turn over the top card, and if that suit is the trump → return the cards face down and shuffle again → redistribute randomly)
Also, while almost all the cards are dealt, the game is designed to prevent the creation of a « super-powerful card. »
A « Rank 10 » card, which is normally the strongest, is treated as a « Rank 5 » card only if all the cards played in that trick are of the same suit. The timing of when to play or when to deflect the card may be the key to success.
